Early Goose Season

Our early goose season went well, had a few decent shoots. A few pics from yesterday morning, my buddy is starting a new puppy and that was funny to watch...she is sure trying to imitate mom.

I missed this. That a lot of birds to clean. Must be a healthy local population.

There is a local Refuge about ten miles away...lots of geese in the area. It's not to bad to clean them we get a bunch of practice on snow geese in spring.

What kind of field were you set up on? Nice hunt

It was a wheat stubble field that had grown up some.

Very nice! I have a dog I've been working with on upland birds, it'd be a hoot to see what he'd do trying to retrieve one of those.

You get snows in the spring? We would see an occasional snow but that is it. I liked the atmosphere of of waterfowling - reminded me of combining hunting and tail-gating at the same time......less the beer. I may need to dust off the 11-87 later this year and see about smacking some geese!

We ended up not chasing the snows this spring they got north way to fast with the warm weather...I am so ready to get after them this February!

My son got me into the ducks and geese and we did it for a year or two, but when he left for school it just wasn't any fun by myself. He is back home now so we may dust off some gear later in the year.....we don't have snows however - typically just the canada's.

It's been a good start so far here, getting to many options of things to chase this time of year. I need to just get in a tree stand and stay put!
