Coating metal stands

I have a couple of ladder stands that have weathered some and have noising platforms. Anyone have any experience with coating them to firm them up? I used a can of flex seal on one and it really seemed to help. Are there better options though? Any advice one things people have done would be great. Thanks

To reduce noise on stands that have expanded metal platforms I have placed sections of carpet on them before to reduce the noise should you drop something or just the noise of dragging your boot across it. If you fasten the carpet to the stand it can cause other issues, like freezing and leaf/snow accumulation or just becoming a platform for coons to take a crap! I typically would cut the piece of carpet to fit the stand platform and carry it in a pack. Other than that teflon/plastic washers can help with noise as well.....but you have to take the stand apart. I have also heard of folks trying to fill the tube frames with expanding foam....this is mostly to keep moisture and bees out, but they claim it deadens the noise as well. I am not sure of that as I have not done it before myself.

My concern about a coating is the durability. Lots of that stuff isn't UV safe or the critters will chew it off......but if it works for you, then go for it.

One thing I have done to reduce noise from my ladder stands is replace the pins that hold the ladder sections together with bolts. 1/4-20 bolts usually fit nicely. Get them snug so the sections can't slip and make noise.

I have never tried coating them with anything, sorry I can't help there.

I don't know about coating them, but one thing I've done with some of the cheap ones that seemed to be noisy was to fill them with Great Stuff foam. You need to use the window and door version, not the regular stuff. It expands to much too fast and can be problematic. The window and door version does not expand as much so it does not bend window/door frames.

This tends to deaden the noise.

Thanks,

Jack

I wrap my pins in duct tape to keep them from moving or catching on anything to reduce that noise.....

Haven't tried it but I'd be willing to bet a couple coats of rhino liner rolled on with a small trim size paint roller would work wonders and keep it from rusting.

I am pulling all my ladder stands this year and inspecting replacing straps and painting
