I can’t take credit for this one. This is a video of my TV. My brother filmed this guy at 15 yards rather than putting a bolt through him.

We call this a catch and release deer. Surely offered the worlds greatest shot! And he’s a successful hunt with no bloody hands.

Our youth hunter starts in the morning and he has already screamed he ain’t letting this guy go.. which would be great!

Love this thread. Im on year at my place. Passing a lot of deer as well. Obviously nothing like that but that is the goal. With that said how much land are you hunting? I’m sure it’s been discussed before but I’m just curious what kind of situation you are in with neighbors and property lines

I know, sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t post this crap. I’m an advocate of passing deer only to get the best an area has to offer. If that’s a 2.5 year old then I say shoot that. You can’t pass the only 3 year old in town and think he may be back.

Yep, I usually only get a chance or two at a buck each year but that's it. And most times it's a yearling. 2.5+ maybe every other year or so. These are sightings not sure things. With that said keep posting and shooting videos Bill. You never come across like you are bragging or anything like that.

I try not to. I very much get hunting in high pressure brown is down area’s. I grew up hunting there. I’m lucky to be where I am. And I should shoot more than I do because many we let walk never return. Just don’t want to now. In a few years my game may change. I’m having fun so that’s what’s counts...

So here is the story. My son is in college and only gets to hunt a few day around thanksgiving. He’s got a favorite spot that I put a blind in as soon as the crop comes off. I’m not even allowed to hunt it. Don’t tell him, the wind was right today and I snuck in just to see.

I don’t care if it was a 200 incher, no way I’m telling the boy I’m shot one out of his set and I’m not going to lie. No harm done, no deer knew I was there and I got a great catch and release video. This deer could be in plastic bags before my son gets to town but, I’m darn well not going to be the guy that puts him there.

Great read Bill. I just caught up from the beginning. I don’t know how you do it. I had a 4 pointer walk by at 7 yards yesterday and 5 minutes later the neighbor shot him. I was pissed the rest of the day. I don’t think I could handle letting one of these big boys walk when I had a chip shot to let the next guy in a tree shoot him. For the record if the neighbor is happy with that deer and that is what he wants to use his tag on good for him, I am pretty sure he shoots every buck he sees.

I hear you. The one my brother let go at the top of the page was shot by me on Friday. He showed with a broken back leg. I don’t know of the one I let go this year but the others are known dead or never seen again. We have a few passes over the years that did squeak by so it’s not a lost cause.

No way I’d ever let anything close to these walk in the north east or many parts of the country. Might as well quit hunting at that point because it would be a lesson in futility.

Also don’t know how long we’ll keep passing critters like these. Just something we decided to try for a few years. I know for sure there are some decent ones that aren’t on out our wall because of it. But still willing to try.

The perils of marriage!
Not my farm, not my lease. But a place I have the rights to hunt. This guy spent the summer teasing us.
Disappeared in October. Now he’s back giving me lots of daytime pics. His buddy is at least 2 or 3.

Hmmm, go to the family Christmas shindig or get. The bow out and kill him?
