best clover to frost seed

I have 5 clover plots that have ladino clover in them now, but they did not come in as well as expected and got a little weedy. I took care of most of the weeds late summer, but I want to frost seed more clover seed in them this spring to thicken them up. I will probably add more ladino clover seed, but what is a good perennial clover to frost seed in with the ladino?

I always just frost seed with ladino and sometimes medium red. This fall I seeded with medium red in September.

How did you "take care of most the weeds"? Some herbicide (butyrac200, rapter) residues on the soil surface can inhibit seed generation, which is good for weed suppression, but not for surface seeding. A light or shallow till will improve germination.

Broadcast in Sept 2 bushels/acre with winter rye. Does a great job of suppressing weeds in the spring and providing early green forage.

Spot sprayed with gly, so I have "holes" in the clover. The majority of the weeds were thistle.

Go with Alice!

I'm at the same spot as you. Clover getting thin in places. Getting a lot of creeping charlie and thistle in it. Hit it with some gly this year and will spot spray the thistle next yr.

I have good luck frost seeding medium red. I usually mix it with Ladino. In your situation I would go with medium red clover.
