I'm thinking of buying some potted Bebb's (bur x white) oak for my yard. They come from a local seed source. Most of the soils in my region are limestone derived and very high in calcium and magnesium.
The soils in my yard are very well drained sandy loam (Casco sandy loam). The topsoil layer is thinner, maybe 6" max, over high calcium sand and gravel. Had a soil test run at the state lab, the topsoil pH is 7.0 at 6" - 8" of depth, high potassium and phosphorus.
White pines, bur oak, and shagbark hickory grow well in the treeline adjacent to my yard. Black walnut are also seeding in.
Wondering if anyone has experience with Bebb's Oak and if they'll tolerate the site conditions. I'm looking for more white oak character. I believe that I'll need the bur oak cross to tolerate the neutral pH and site conditions which can be droughty at times.
