Is there anywhere to buy Dolgo rootstock in bundles of 50 or 100 at a reasonable price ?

I'm in southcentral Pa zone 6B. My Myers Royal doesn't ripen until Mid-Late October and develop a great sweet-tart taste. My favorite fresh eating apple.

I enjoy preserving them but the Ewalt is of specail interest to me. It was discovered before 1800 on a farm about a dozen miles from my house.

I have Shackelford, Celestia, Elkhorn and Ivanhoe coming. Last year I grafted Streaked Pippin, Nero, Gold Ridge Ewalt and Kittageskee

Just checked on the price of concrete wire at Home Depot and Lowes in southcentral Pa. 5 foot by 150 foot roll. $347 and $409. :emoji_rage: :emoji_rage::emoji_rage:

The Dolgo rootstock that I received from Ryan at Blue Hill had insane roots. :) and there was no way I was going to pot them up in my usual 3 gallon grow bags. So out came the pruners. But then I had all these nice looking pieces of roots that I couldn't let go to waste. So I cleft grafted...

My experience with pears mirrors chickenlittle's. I now let pear rootstock grow for a year before grafting to it and have much better success.

I hiked back to some old apple trees that I had found last spring hoping to find some late hangers. I got lucky and found two trees with a few apples still hanging on. :) One had a few large apples on that were mealy tasting maybe sauce or pie apples, the other tree had small apples that still...

That's a pretty apple. :)

Could be a Roxbury Russet. They also look a lot like my Keener Seedling (Rusty Coat) apple that's still holding on the tree. You definitely need to do so grafting.

Arkansas Black and Victoria Limbertwigs are dropping here in southcentral Pa. Keener Seedlings, Brushy Mt. Limbertwigs & Gold Rush are still hanging tight. And the old reliable wild Sinkhole apple is starting it's slow drop which will last into Jan.

What zone are you in? I'm in 6A and usually surround my trees with old hay bales, but last winter I left some just sit out and all survived.

Would be interested in knowing how they develop. Odd shape. I'd Definitely mark that limb.
