Wood Chipper Info

Hey Fellas, looking to purchase a wood chipper.
Don't know much about what brand or make an model.

Want it to be big enough to handle up to 3-5in branches, while still being able to shred leaves.

Looking at this as a farm/garden investment.
Was hoping to spend anywhere from 500-2000. Know they can run considerable higher than that.

Any suggestions or info greatly appreciated.

Anywhere close by to rent one? I rented one from the local lumber yard once.
I had to replace the spark plug and fuel filter to get it working right but once that was done it was a beast. Don't remember what it was but it ate 4 inch limbs like tooth picks.

It would give you a chance to try one and see if it would meet your needs.

Do you have a tractor with 3pt and pto? I've seen some of those that can really eat up timber. I bought your typical 10hp box store unit. Bought it slightly used. It's way to slow for my taste, used it once and never touched it again. It's a nice idea but I don't have the patience for it. Much faster to push in to a pile and burn. And ash helps raise ph which is often useful.

This was my exact experience about 3 years ago. Bought a slightly used DR wood chipper in about the same size and price range the OP mentioned...and hated it. Used it once it twice and then sold it. Way to slow for the amount of brush that I had. I now burn 90% of my brush, and use the other 10% to make some small brush piles for wildlife and use it to brush in my treestands on the downwind side.
