Just received my order of trees from MDC. Box was a bit roughed up but all trees wrapped well and in good shape.

Hey Jimmy. I asked for the same shipping date for my order from MDC. I’m hoping they will be delivered by Thursday. They ship on Monday and expect them to reach their destinations before the weekend so the trees don’t sit in a parked hot truck or building over the weekend. Rubee

If I remember correctly, several times over the last few decades scientists have raised hopes of a viable disease resistant American chestnut tree. They all failed and died after a few years growth.

Ordered 25 Concordia oak seedlings from MDC on sept 1st. will be planting them in north east lower peninsula of Michigan zone 5a-5b? Planning on using 5 foot tubes in sandy loam soil. Any ideas of what success and growth rate I can expect.

Top might be winter die back or fire blight. scratch the bark as homer said and if dead cut it back to live wood.

Swampcat, In your second photo looks like some kind of insect egg case under the left limb upper corner. Can anyone identify what the insect is that laid them? Also, what spray did you use?

TC. One more question please. Are you saying in your previous answer that a scion cannot get sap or nutrients from the pushing rootstock before a callus is formed? Thanks for your patience rubee

Thanks TC. Are you saying that it’s best to have a healed graft or callus before the rootstock wakes up and starts to push sap ? To prevent leakage?
