Well I thought it was worth a try

Good deal.

Wow! Pretty neat, glad you found it.

That's pretty cool.

Awesome!

It took 2 tries to recover him. I thought I had him pin pointed the first time and went in after him not prepared.....ruined a pair of pants in all the multifloral Rose and realized this looks nothing like the park I see from the sky. I had to re fly the drone and find a few marker trees so I would know exactly where he was. It was solid brush on the one side and about a 15 foot straight down wash out on the other side. It didn't look steep from the drone.

That's a cool use of the drone !! Glad you found him.

Too bad the drone can’t drop a smoke bomb on the location!

Thats awesome! Which drone do you have?

Post a pic of the buck

Mavic pro. It is on sale now for 745. Thing is awesome. 4 mile range and it won't let me fly into things. I don't have a pic of the buck but it was not one that I shot. We made some corn and soybean harvest videos as well with it. Kind of scary how good you can see with this thing and with these there is no wondering if the neighbor has food plots or what he has planted you see everything.

The laws on that are sketchy. Be careful.

There is a fine line between recovering and hunting. If you just dropped a deer, walked to your truck and toss in your gun/bow and grab drone you’re still hunting with drone. You need to take the weapon to the house and then go back to recover the animal with no gun/bow. Be sure to talk to your local CO.

Ya we tracked the deer the next day and found where he bedded. That was about 500 yards from where he shot him. We decided it was definitely not a great hit and most likely liver. We figured he might still be alive but seemed to be headed towards a 20 acre really thick draw. We flew it 2 days later and went home to review the footage where I saw it. We went back out and recovered him the next day.

Interesting recovery and glad you got the deer. I do worry about drones used for deer hunting and snooping. Curious what is the green foliage? Would that be buckthorn? Our nasty green one is bush honeysuckle. Will be green for a long time yet.

There is a few bush honeysuckle out there but if I had to guess I would say multifloral rose would be a good guess. Tornado went through this woods in 2015 and loggers came in and cut what they could. To say that it is a thick mess is an understatement. The first time this summer we flew the drone over the farm I started having the same worries about snooping neighbors. All the complaints of the neighbors are baiting will now be the neighbors are baiting and here are there piles! It must still be tough to see live deer in the woods in the fall though because the only deer I saw was a dead one. I do think I will fly ours this winter and maybe get a deer numbers count. Also I am planning on flying a few winter wheat fields north of here where the deer yard up and see if I can find some sheds in the snow.

I'm curious if it would be possible to easily spot live deer with some kind of an app that turns the camera into a thermal imager? Or just attach a thermal imager or infra-red cam to the drone? I know nothing about drones but I am always curious about the technology.

Mavic pro.

Gotcha. Reason I asked is you mentioned that you used a few marker trees so you would know where it was. I have a Phantom 3, and every picture I take is geotagged, so when you put the picture on your computer and click on "properties", it will give you the GPS coords of where the drone was when the pic was taken. I assume the Mavic is the same...

Now that is a cool deal there. Next time I have a tough recovery I will be drone shopping - all I need is more toys!!!
